∑ Applications for the prestigious LORAN SCHOLARSHIP are now available on-line.
The application and more information is available at www.loranscholarship.ca/apply. Western Canada can sponsor up to three candidates or you can simply apply through the direct pool. If you would like to be sponsored by Western applications must be in to Guidance by Friday, October 6th. Sponsored applicants will be eligible to participate in regional interviews. If you would like to be sponsored please present a 750 word essay on why you would be an ideal candidate for this scholarship and your resume, plus a recent transcript to Guidance by the deadline. Direct pool applicants must be submitted directly to the Loran foundation by October 25th. This award is valued at up to $100,000. The foundation is looking for students who are well rounded, who demonstrate character, and show promise of leadership and strong commitment to service in the greater community. You should only apply if you have made a very strong commitment to community service. This award is only available to students attending post-secondary school in the fall of 2018.

Hey Western! If you're under 18, looking for an opportunity to meet new people from all across Canada as well as travel for an experiential learning program based on STEAM, come to room 179 on September 28 at lunch to learn more about the SHAD program and how to apply.† SHAD alumni will be presenting their experiences.† Bring your lunch and a friend!
∑ Volunteer Opportunity: Intergenerational Doll Project
A free cultural art project for student volunteers to work with seniors from the Calgary Chinese Elderly Citizenís Association to make cultural dolls that will be displayed in Canada150 exhibitions. ∑ PSAT EXAM
On October the 11th at 8:30 AM Western Canada will be offering the PSAT Exam for any interested Grade 11 students. We have room for 30 students. The cost will be $40.00 (cash only please) and there will be a sign-up sheet in the Guidance office . This will be on a first come, first served basis. Students who sign up and pay the fee will be given the 2017 PSAT Study Guide.
∑ Peer Tutoring: Interested in a valuable volunteer opportunity to give back to your school community? Sign up to be a peer tutor. If you are interested in tutoring in any subject area, see Ms. Cadre in room 001, either before school, after school, or at the end of lunch to fill out an application form.
∑ NOVEMBER† DIPLOMA RE-WRITES
Students who are wanting to Re-Write a diploma exam in November need to see Mrs. Luft in the main office.† You will need to add your name and the exam you are interested in writing to a sign-up sheet. A decision will be made as to what Diploma exam/exams will be offered depending on interest. Deadline to add your name to the list is September 25, 2017.

New this year is the WCHS rock climbing club! Whether you are a climber or you want to get started, you are invited to join us at the Calgary Climbing Centre Stronghold location on Friday afternoons.
