Sequence of Courses

 

Art 10 ( 5 credits)

No Prerequisite Required:  Student Interest
Content:  This is an introductory course to the fundamentals of art, particularly stressing drawing, painting and composition.   This course begins with simple exercises and leads to more involved projects with a wide range of different mediums. Students will develop the technical skills required to create proficient pieces of art with confidence.

  • Printmaking       
  • Painting
  • Art History         
  • Sculpture

Art 20 (5 credits)

Prerequisite Standard:  Art 10 or Art Design 10

Content:  This course builds upon the technical skills obtained from Art 10 and focuses on the deeper commitment and involvement of refining the individuals techniques. This allows students to experience more flexibility and independence when approaching final projects.

Art 30 (5 credits)

Prerequisite Standard:  Art 20 or Art Design 20

Content:  This course is a culmination course at the high school level with expectations for more intense, personal involvement and commitment, focused on achieving high quality results.  The goal of this course is to prepare students for post-secondary endeavors, while instilling an appreciation of the world of the visual arts. Students will become self-sufficient artists and through teacher consultations, personal style will be achieved.

  • Portfolio work for post-secondary application

Drawing 25 (5 credits)

Prerequisite Standard: Art 10

Content: Drawing 25 is intended for students that wish to improve both their skill level and their creative reasoning in the studio. Students will expand upon the techniques, art history, and personal style introduced in Art 10.

Drawing 35  (5 credits)

Prerequisite Standard: Art 20 or Drawing 25

Content: Drawing 35 is an advanced techniques drawing class. This course is meant to challenge students in the technical aspects of drawing. Students will produce, in a studio environment, a portfolio containing several drawings that display personal style and an increased level of proficiency in the medium.

Painting 25 (5 credits)

Prerequisite Standard: Art 10

Content: Painting 25 is intended for students that wish to improve both their skill level and their creative reasoning in the studio. Students will expand upon the techniques, art history, and personal style introduced in Art 10.

Painting 35  (5 credits)

Prerequisite Standard: Art 20 or Painting 25

Content: Painting 35 is an advanced techniques painting class. This course is meant to challenge students in the technical aspects of traditional and non-traditional painting. Students will produce, in a studio environment, a portfolio containing several paintings that display personal style and an increased level of proficiency in the medium.
