Extra-Curricular Activities

Ernest Manning High School offers an array of after school activities, drama productions, athletics, clubs and more. Don’t wait to be invited. Get involved! Meet new people, learn new skills or give back to your community. Check out guitar club, Science Olympics, drama production, outdoor leadership, debate, student leadership, speech competition, and book club to name a few. Not to mention our athletics opportunities. To get connected, see your Teacher Advisor or our counsellors!

The Leadership class has been transformed! Instead of a class within the timetable, Leadership has become an extra-curricular group that meets weekly Monday’s at lunch in Room 147. This student group, or ‘council’, is non-elected – any students (Grades 10-12) who are interested and willing to commit their time and effort to the council is welcome to participate. No previous involvement in the Leadership class is required – anyone is welcome!

The Student Leadership Council will pick up where the Leadership Class left off. Students who participate will help staff and administration at Manning put on school functions (i.e., Parent/Teacher Interviews), and in return will get the opportunity to stage events in the school that are student centred and created, like the ever popular Battle of the Bands!

The Battle of the Bands, where Manning student’s garage bands take to the stage and try to get their fans to pledge money during their lunch time set, with the bands that raise the most money will qualify for the finale where the champion will be chosen by those who attend the finale event (all money donated will go towards a charity – last year the charity was Unicef – this year’s charity has not yet been chosen).

Also in October, the Student Leadership Council will work with Education Matters for the third consecutive year by acting as student ambassadors and table facilitators at the Distinguished Alumni Dinner on October 22. This event is both a fundraiser for Education Matters, a public education advocacy organization, and an opportunity to recognize alumni of the public education system who have made significant contributions to society and championed public education!
