Knowledge & Employability Courses (K&E)

Calgary Board of Education Detailed High School Course Guide (pdf)

The intent of Knowledge and Employability courses is to provide students who meet the criteria with opportunities to experience success and become well prepared for employment, further studies,  citizenship and lifelong learning (Knowledge and Employability Courses Policy 1.4.2).

The Knowledge & Employability courses (K & E) are part of a series of courses available to students who meet set criteria of educational and learning needs.  Prior to enrolment in any K & E course, a student must discuss with a Student Services Counsellor the appropriateness of such courses for the educational needs and plans of the student.  In addition, parental consent is a requirement PRIOR to enrolment in such courses.

(Note: course offerings and method of instruction will depend upon the number of students enrolling in the courses.  When there are no qualified or interested students, the courses will not be offered)

Knowledge and Employability English language arts highlights six language arts—listening, speaking, reading, writing, viewing and representing.  Students engage all six language arts as they study texts and as they create their own texts in relevant situations for a variety of purposes and audiences. All of the language arts are interrelated and interdependent; proficiency in one strengthens and supports proficiency in the others.
