Summer Off-Campus

Off-Campus opportunities are also available over the summer months. Students will register in the spring then supervision is arranged through Chinook Learning Services. The process and time line for taking part in Summer Off-Campus is outlined below:

Summer RAP:

Summer RAP is offered in Partnership with Careers the Next Generation, a foundation established to help high school students get their start as an apprentice.

To qualify for RAP you must:

  • be a high school student in Grade 10, 11 or 12
  • be on track to graduate
  • have a 90% or better attendance record
  • be available to work the month of July and the first two weeks of August
  • submit two teacher recommendations and one recommendation from a community member and
  • research the trade of interest

Here are the important steps and deadlines if you are interested in summer RAP opportunities

  • Tuesday March 2nd, 7PM (Manning Library) - Parent information meeting for potential RAP students
  • Students and their parents should network to find a suitable RAP position because Careers the Next Generation can not guarantee that they can find a position for every student that applies
  • April 9th - Off-Campus applications and RAP application due to Mr. Mitchinson.
  • Students can start CTR1010 at Manning as soon as they apply - if CTR1010 is not complete by the end of June it can be completed the first week of July through Chinook Learning Services

Summer Work Experience

  • Students must have a paid or volunteer position secured before applying for summer Work Experience
  • May 30, 2010 - Off Campus student application due to Mr. Mitchinson
  • Students can start CTR1010 at Manning as soon as they apply - if CTR1010 is not complete by the end of June it can be completed the first week of July through Chinook Learning Services

Health Services Internship

The program allows to you try out a career in health services, earn 10 high school credits towards your diploma and get paid! Health Services interns work in a facility such as a hospital or clinic for six weeks during the summer after their grade 11 year. If you’re a grade 11 student in Alberta who’s willing to take on new challenges, then you’re a great candidate for this program. To qualify, you must:

  • Have a good attitude
  • Complete Biology 20 and Chemistry 20
  • Have a solid attendance record
  • Receive a recommendation from your school
  • Be available to work the month of July and the first two weeks of August
  • You may also be asked to submit your immunization records and a criminal background check for safety reasons.
