New Athlete Development Program

Sport CollageThe new athlete development program in conjunction with WinSport will launch in September 2013. Students in Grade 9 and 10 will take full year Physical Education/Athlete Development. This course supports Canada’s long term athlete development model by continuing to enhance physical literacy, develop mental fitness and ongoing athletic learning. Sports psychology, nutrition, dryland training, musculoskeletal and cardiovascular body systems are among the topics students will be exploring in the context of athlete development and exploration of sport.

Mayor's Breakfast

Once again, the National Sport School is proud to have been part of Sport Calgary’s Mayor’s Sport Breakfast. Forty of our student-athletes were on Chelsea Shaul and Scott Brownhand to represent grassroots athletics, proudly reflecting the school’s Culture of Excellence to His Excellency, Mayor Naheed Nenshi, keynote speaker Carol Huynh, several high performance athletes, and key members of Calgary’s business community. Alpine skier Scott Brown and swimmer Chelsea Shaul were spectacular, co-emceeing alongside the CBC’s Doug Dirks, and speaking to the attendees about the impact of sport on their lives.

The National Sport School would also like to congratulate our colleagues from WinSport Canada for receiving the Business and Sport Excellence Award, recognizing and celebrating their outstanding, innovative and consistent support to sport.
