Mayor's Breakfast

Special thanks to the 56 student-athletes and their families for another successful Mayor's Sport Breakfast. Especially considering the unanticipated and unwelcome preview to winter, the fact that all 56 student-athletes made it to the event on time and (most importantly) safely is an accomplishment in itself.

Bryn Hoffman, Conner Matthezing and Kailie Humphries

Kaillie Humphreys was excellent as the key note speaker, sharing her story of resilience, determination and success, but the real stars of the event were definitely our students. Lead by Bryn Hoffman (figure skating) and Connor Matthezing (swimming), who were spectacular in their roles as Masters of Ceremony, our student-athletes were remarkable ambassadors for their sports and the National Sport School, conveying their passions and experiences to members of Calgary's corporate and athletic communities.

Several accolades were aimed at our student-athletes by a number of attendees, including His Worship Mayor Nenshi, city councillors, MLAs, and Olympians. This was a day where the National Sport School's Culture of Excellence was fully realized.

Camp 2014

Camp 2014Our annual team-building and direction-setting “Camp NSS” was again held at Camp Chief Hector in the majestic Canadian Rocky Mountains. The Camp was, as usual, a great success with experienced student-athletes and teachers facilitating newcomers to the school in becoming acclimatized to the “Culture of Excellence” that permeates all we do at the National Sport School. Activities included a high ropes course, canoeing, low ropes, horseback riding and many more, an induction ceremony for those new to our school community, and an evening session conducted by Dr. Steve Norris. Since the unique hybrid teaching and learning environment at NSS is distinctly different from traditional schooling, this Camp is a critical component of the school's success. Thanks go to everyone involved for making this Camp an overwhelming success!
