Choir Students Travelled To Vancouver and Whistler for Spring Choral Tour

May 14, 2018

What an amazing experience our choral music students were part of on our Spring Choral Tour to Vancouver and Whistler. Students worked with Dr. Graeme Langager at UBC, visited the Vancouver Aquarium, took in concerts including the Vancouver Youth Choir, the University of Washington Drumline, and the Toronto Youth Orchestra. Our students shared music with schools in Langley and Surrey, sang in a massed choir where 2 of our students Hope and Hayden Mack were chosen from 700 choristers to be featured soloists, AND our students showed their stuff on the dance floor placing 2nd in a friendly swing dance competition with fellow festival goers (Danny Zapata and Sydney Marshall).

The LBHS Concert Choir, Beyond Measure Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and Hard Choral Vocal Jazz Ensemble performed at the Cantando Festival in Whistler to critical acclaim and for esteemed adjudicators and audience go-ers. They wowed adjudicators not only with their performances, but also their flexibility and willingness to work with the adjudicators in clinics during the festival. Our students were excellent ambassadors, encouraging other performers and each other; truly a testament to the work being done on the daily in every corner of our school.

But perhaps one of the greatest hounours and highlights of the festival came when the 5 esteemed choral music adjudicators unanimously chose LBHS's Hard Choral to receive the highest of honours at the music festival - the Adjudicators Choice! Our students performed for over 1500 festival participants in a special Adjudicators choice concert, representing the best of the choral groups at the festival. With over 3000 students participating in bands and choirs in over 70 performing ensembles, our students represented themselves with poise, professionalism and polish! What an incredible honour!
