Practical Training

This course sequence aims to provide students involved in sports with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to understand the factors related to sports performance. Students will have continued exposure to a combination of practical and theoretical training in areas of strength, speed, agility, balance and quickness. Students will be given the opportunity and knowledge to plan their own training programs.

Students enrolled in this course must fill out a formal application with teacher recommendation (submitted to the LBHS Physical Education Office). A general course fee is required to cover the cost of equipment and guest instructors/lectures. Specific information regarding fees will be relayed to students during the first week of the semester.

Training the Female Athlete

Training the Female Athlete

Sports performance classes provide active girls involved in sport with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to understand the variety of factors related to sports performance. As girls have different fitness goals than boys, this class will have a slightly different focus based on the needs of training the female athlete. Through a combination of theory and practical exposures to areas of sport, students will be expected to demonstrate outcomes as they relate to the study of current training principles, performance enhancement, sports injuries, performance evaluation, sports studies and personal development through participation in sport. This class has a high amount of strenuous daily activity, i.e. (strength, agility, quickness, & cardio training). Only interested active students that have specific goals toward their fitness should apply.

Yoga 15, 25, 35

Yoga 15/25 will introduce students to the basic postures (asanas), breathing techniques and relaxation methods of yoga. In this course, students will learn techniques to manage stress, they will build strength and flexibility, and will develop a sense of physical and mental balance. Students will experience the health benefits of a regular yoga practice and will also gain an understanding of basic anatomy and the historical roots of yoga. All abilities, from beginner to advanced, are welcome.
