LBHS and the United Way of Calgary – All in for Youth
LBHS has been selected to participate in a partnership with the United Way of Calgary through the “All in for Youth” Initiative. This initiative is currently in operation in eight high schools in Calgary focusing on three main areas: Keep Youth in School; Bring Youth Back to School and; Link Youth to Further Education. For this year our main focus is to Keep Youth in School. While in the formative stages, our school and our students in particular will benefit from our involvement in the following ways: Call backs to students who have withdrawn to attempt to re-engage them with school whether at LBHS or another alternative program; Tutors; and Mentors.
Initially, students at LBHS will benefit from this intiative in three distinct ways:
- Tutoring in math to motivated students with financial need;
- Bright Futures, an extensive in-depth tutoring program in math and science;
- Access to a mentorship program and contact.
A representative from United Way met with students in select math classes last week to briefly explain the math tutoring opportunity at the Shaughnessy YMCA. Students must complete an application form in order to be considered for and access the tutoring services. Applications are available through the Guidance Office. Our school continues to work with representatives from the United Way to discuss and strategize how best to partner services and support our students.
Watch for more information regarding the SAIT Bissett Bursary Recipient Success Program in early May.
Important information regarding this initiative and our partnership with AIFY and the United Way of Calgary can be found on the Calgary United Way site.
