Semester and Class Information
Student Duties - January 2019

End of First Semester & Exam Days

Last Day of Classes - 8:15 am - 3:10 pm - Friday, January 11, 2019 is the last day of regular classes. Class times will follow a regular Friday schedule. Course exams and Alberta Diploma exams will take place January 14 through January 30, with no regular scheduled classes during this time; however, daily tutorials, flex classes, science labs, etc. will be available. For further details please refer to the exam schedule available on the school website and outside the business office.

Textbooks - Please return your textbooks as soon as possible to the business office as they are needed for second semester. Students may keep first semester textbooks until the day of their exam. Please return your textbooks before writing each exam. Books must be returned to the business office anytime prior to and on the exam day.

Exam Information - NO CELL PHONES - Cell phones, electronic devices (I-Pods, MP3 players, etc.), PDAs, translators, purses, coats, book bags, binders, books, and food are not permitted into exam rooms. Please plan to bring your current student ID card and only the necessities for writing the exam. Calculators are permitted in some exams. The school can not be responsible for valuable personal items. Be sure to visit our school's website for further information concerning: – calendar dates and exam schedules – publications and reports – parent information – student resources.

Please review the exam schedule for further details.

Science 10 Lab Exams - This is a reminder to parents of first semester Science 10 students that they have been scheduled to complete a final practical lab exam in addition to their written Science 10 final. The more than 300 Science 10 students each have been given a date and time to come to school during exam weeks to do this. These lists are posted on our website, in the Science section. In addition, each student has also signed a copy of the schedule, beside their name, in their Science class. Teachers have discussed the lab exam process with students. As this is part of their final exam (worth 5% of their final Science 10 grade), this is not optional, nor able to be rescheduled. Please check with your student to ensure they know the date and time of their appointment.

Transportation - Plan transportation routes in advance. Many of the afternoon 700 series routes returning to the communities will not be operating during exam week.

Mark Reporting - Marks will be posted for students to review. For further information please review detailed information in the student agenda book or on the school website.

Report Cards - Report cards will be distributed through homeroom on the first day of the second semester.

Diploma Course Mark Appeal Day - Diploma mark appeals for school earned course marks in diploma courses. Diploma course marks on the school report card only reflect the school earned portion (50%) of the final grade. Diploma exam results will be sent directly from Alberta Education to the student's residence, approximately four to six weeks from the writing date.

Non-Diploma Course Mark Appeal Day - Students need to contact their teachers if they have any concerns.

First Day of Second Semester - Regular Classes resume on Thursday, January 31, 2019 with a FRIDAY schedule.

Semester 2 Timetable Changes - When students chose their classes last year, we worked hard to create a timetable that included their top choices. Our timetable was created based on students' course requests, along with our allocation of teachers. We expect the students to follow through with their choices and adjustments may be made to academic classes if final marks warrant the change.

Requests to change teachers will only be considered if the current student has previously completed a class with that same teacher. If you have not completed a class with a teacher you may not request a change.

Students will not be granted class changes for complementary classes. If a student was scheduled for a class that he/she did not choose, we will review the original registration form and attempt to make changes where possible.
