2011 3rd overall! Many medals! A few records! Thanks!!
Organization Meeting - Tuesday, October 18 at 11:45 AM in room 220/222
Season Starts October 25, 2011
Schedule
DIVING TEAM: The bulk of dive practices will be held at SAIT Pool. Click here for directions to Shouldice Pool. Click the link to view and print the SWC DIVE TEAM SCHEDULE.
SWIM TEAM: The bulk of the practices will take place at FOOTHILLS POOL. Foothills pool is located a short driving distance from Sir Winston Churchill. Directions to Foothills Pool from SWC can be found here.
A DETAILED SCHEDULE can be downloaded here, but the schedule in general for swimmers is:
- Mondays and Wednesdays after school: RIGHT after school at 3:30 to 4:30 PM. These practises are best suited to students with a car or access to a ride, or who have spares that allow them to attend. We realize that the times are tight with school ending at 3:10 on those days, but those are the only times we could get after school!
- Tuesdays and Thursdays morning: 6-7 AM. Yes you read that correctly! If you want to immerse yourself in the culture of swimming, early morning swim practises are a worldwide tradition! Besides, nothing starts the day off better than a good swim in the dark!
- Fridays after school: 2-3 PM at CHURCHILL pool, not foothills. It's easier to make, so DON'T be LATE!!! This is a more casual practice, run by our competitive swimmers and is designed to work on technique that you want to work on! Coach Oborn pops in once in awhile for a short while!
- Additionally, there are some special practices at Talisman to help prepare you for the conditions and the height of the dive blocks there.
Remember, the expectation is that you make TWO to THREE of the ABOVE per week! YOU MUST HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST 10 PRACTICES BEFORE THE CUT-OFF DATE TO REGISTER FOR CITIES (this occurs 10 days before the City Championship).
Gear Needed
GOGGLES! Don't come without goggles, people! It's like coming to football practice without a helmet, to badminton without your racquet, or to ballet without your tutu!!! They should also be GOOD goggles, made by a company such as iTech or Speedo. This should be purchased at a swim shop or large sports store. Don't cheap out on goggles as leaky goggles are a huge pain for a swimmer!
Swimmers and Divers should have appropriate bathing suits. For girls, this means a ONE PIECE suit. For guys, some sort of form fitting jammer style suit would be best. Save the bikinis and the board shorts for the beach!
Optional: consider using a work out bag to put your swim gear in before and after a workout and your clothing into while working out, instead of using a locker at the pool.
Swim Levels
Based on your swim experience, you will be classified as a BLUE, WHITE or RED swimmer:
- RED SWIMMER: is a current competitive club swimmer, registered with Swim Canada as of September 1 of the current school year. You could also be any swimmer in possession of a national time within the past three (3) years of high school eligibility.
- WHITE SWIMMER: is a past competitive swimmer or a current swimmer in another water sport (ie. triathlete, synchro, water polo player, etc.). This also includes athletes who have participated in summer swim camps or summer club swimmers.
- BLUE SWIMMER: consitutes the BULK of the typical swim team. You range from being a good to a fair swimmer. If you have okay technique but most importantly can meet some very liberal maximum swim tryout times, you are on the team!
Expectation and schedule
Both teams schedules can be found in the menu bar above. For the swim team, it's expected that swimmers make 3 practises a week. You can swim in more depending on your goals. You MAY be able to swim in less but you must speak to the coach or manager about this. Red swimmers typically cannot make 3 a week due to their own club practises, which is perfectly fine but you must communicate with us!
