CALGARY HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA FESTIVAL: WED.MAY 1, THURS.MAY 2 & FRI. MAY 3, 2013 - Tickets $15.00 -
The Calgary High School Drama Festival is an amazing endeavour. Now in its 51st year, it captures the delight and excitement of students and teachers alike. Over eight hundred students from both the Calgary Public and Calgary Catholic School Boards participate each year. Often a seminal event in the lives of the young students, their work can now be seen throughout Calgary and the nation. It's an ambitious undertaking that delivers!
The Festival is comprised of three parts: MAINSTAGE: takes place in the University Theatre at 7:00pm each evening and is open to the public. Three teacher directed one act plays are performed. They will be adjudicated by Glenda Stirling and Jed Tomlinson. Students yearn for the comments and insight of the professionals.
WORKSHOPS: (STUDENTS ONLY, PLEASE)take place in the afternoons in Craigie Hall. You'll know by the screams and laughter erupting from the studios. Students may choose from workshops in: Character Connection, Acting, Commedia dell'arte, Directing, Rhythm and Tricks to Painless Violence!
STUDIO: (STUDENTS ONLY, PLEASE)takes place at the same time as Workshops, in the Boris Roubakine Concert Hall. This is the wackiest event: six short student written and directed works are performed. Writer, director Ethan Cole, will adjudicate these bits of madness. Anything can and usually does happen at Studio!

Drama really consists of 3 very different but incredibly symbiotic areas: Drama, Musical Theatre and Technical Theatre.
Those interested in Drama are those passionate and dedicated characters with a keen interest in exploring human nature. You delight in using your imagination and taking on new roles. You work well with others and love to “play the part”.
