You will find the details on our web site helpful and celebratory. We are a school that has an excellent reputation for our academic rigor. We boast an experienced team in our Advanced Placement courses, Dr. E. P. Scarletts program of enrichment. We are proud to be the bilingual school for High School French Immersion in Area V. We have a rich array of offerings in our complementary courses including fine arts, second languages, and Career and Technology Studies. Some of our specialty programs include Sports Medicine. Dance and Cosmetology. It is our goal, academically, that each student would maximize his or her timetable to take a full program. We encourage students to make careful choices in planning their high school career and to commit to these decisions. We have a full range of support services to assist our students. For those who are uncertain as to their career direction, I encourage them to explore interests and investigate careers, options, and requirements through our Student Service department and our Career Centre. Early identification of a career path often helps students set goals and standards. Our Learning Assistance Program offers classes for students with learning difficulties and behavioral issues. We have now also, expanded our services, by offering a mentorship program to our gifted students. Our full time teacher-librarian helps operate one of the most efficient and well-used libraries in the city. We are fortunate to share a School Resource Officer with Bishop O'Byrne School. To round off our support services, we have a strong administrative team that endeavors to work with all constituents to ensure that decisions are made in the best interest of students. Commencing in September 2005, Dr. E. P. Scarlett will embark on the initiatives of Career Pathways, Mentorship Program & Portfolios. This renewal focus will feature an Individualized Learning Plan for each student to strive for success. In addition to our academic program we encourage
students to become involved in the many school activities we provide.
We have a mixture of athletic, fine arts, governance and academic
challenge extra-curricular activities. Many of our accomplishments
as a school are in these areas, and we are proud of our coaches, teacher
sponsors and of course our students who act as ambassadors when they
take their talents into the community through these extensions of
our learning opportunities. For those of you who come to Dr. E. P. Scarlett High School, I would challenge you to take advantage of all we have to offer, and to think of ways in which you will serve our school community and contribute to our spirit. I hope that through your personal resolve to strive for excellence and to participate in our many opportunities that you will come to know why we are referred to as "Dr. E. P. Scarlett High School - a place of humane learning." Lawanda Neilsen
