The Mathematics 10AP / 20AP / 30AP / 31AP sequences are the advanced placement courses in mathematics. These courses are designed for extremely talented and motivated students who wish to pursue mathematics at a level beyond the normal high school curriculum.

Pure Mathematics 10AP - 5 credits
Prerequisite: Mathematics 9 (85%+ and a teacher recommendation)

This is the first course in the advanced placement sequence. This course is for motivated, talented math students who are looking for a challenging mathematics course. Topics include all of the topics in the regular Pure Math 10 course, plus extended enrichment within each unit. Topics are covered at a greater depth and speed than in the regular Pure math 10 course, using a problem solving approach. The content of the course includes sequences and series, the real number system, functions and relations, coordinate geometry, polynomials and rational expressions, trigonometry, statistics and probability. It will be at the end of this course that the AP teachers will recommend students for the Math 20AP or Pure Math 20 courses.

Pure Mathematics 20AP - 5 credits
Prerequisite: Math 10AP (80% and teacher recommendation)

Topics from Pure Math 20 are covered in more rigorous detail, and extensions are introduced to prepare for Math 30AP. Students study systems of equations, quadratic functions, quadratic and polynomial equations, functional analysis, mathematical reasoning, circle geometry, coordinate geometry, and personal finance.

Pure Mathematics 30AP - 5 credits
Prerequisite: Math 20AP (80%+)

Pure Math 30AP is that Pure Math 30 program with extensive enrichment. Students study transformations, trigonometric functions, logarithmic and exponential functions, quadratic relations, permutations and combinations, and statistics. A Provincial Diploma Examination written at the conclusion of this course accounts for 50% of the mark awarded in the course. Pure Math 30 is a prerequisite for entrance into most programs at the University of Calgary.

Mathematics 31AP - 5 credits
Prerequisite: Pure Math 30AP (80%+)

This course is for students who wish to get prepared for the advanced placement exam in May. This course is comparable to calculus courses offered in colleges and universities. It is intended for very serious students who will pursue more education in mathematics or science at university. Students must posses a high degree of motivation towards mathematics, have excellent work habits, and have a very strong math background. Content includes limits, derivatives, integration, applications, vectors and matrices.
