English Language Arts 20

English Language Arts 20-1 - 5 Credits
Prerequisite: ELA 10-1 – 65% minimum is strongly recommended

ELA 20-1 is a challenging course for the student whose goal is to attend a post-secondary program or who has a strong interest in English Language Arts. Reading comprehension and writing skills need to be strong for the student to be successful in this course. Students in this course will be expected to study a variety of texts including a novel, Shakespearean play and a variety of essays. In response to literature and other texts students in ELA 20-1 are required to respond in a personal and critical/analytical manner using various forms of prose, poetry, script and oral/visual/ multimedia presentations.

English Language Arts 20-2 - 5 Credits
Prerequisite: ELA 10-1 or ELA 10-2

Students in this course will be expected to study a variety of texts including a novel and popular non-fiction. In response to literature students in ELA 20-2 are required to respond in a personal manner to literature and a personal and critical manner to other texts using various forms of prose, poetry, and oral/visual/ multimedia presentations. Informative and persuasive writing is emphasized along with a strong oral and visual component. This course is strongly recommended for students who have completed ELA 10-1 but may have experienced difficulty in the process.
