Grade 10

Prep Math 10 – 5 credits (Unassigned)
Prerequisite: Math 9 – 45% -65%

This course focuses on topics of Grade 9 mathematics that are required for Pure Math 10. Students who have achieved less than 65% in Grade 9 math, but who wish to pursue the Pure Mathematics approach in high school should register for this course. A recommendation from the Grade 9 math teacher is required for registration in this course. Students achieving at least 65% in this course may take Pure Math 10 in the second semester of Grade 10 if class size allows.

Pure Math 10 - 5 credits
Prerequisite: Math 9 – 65% or greater

This course is designed for students who have achieved 65% or higher in Grade 9 math and have the recommendation of their Grade 9 math teacher. Students should have excellent algebra and equation solving skills and be able to perform well on quizzes and exams. The course emphasizes theoretical mathematics with some applications. Students must purchase a graphing calculator, which is available through the school. They will be able to use this calculator for their entire high school career.

Applied Math 10 - 5 credits
Prerequisite: Math 9 – 50% to 65%

This course is designed for students who have achieved a minimum of 50% in Grade 9 math and have the recommendation of their Grade 9 math teacher. This course emphasizes applications of math, projects and group skills. Students must purchase a graphing calculator, which is available through the school. They will be able to use this calculator for their entire high school career.

Math 14 - 5 credits
Prerequisite: Less than 50% in Grade 9

Math 14 is designed for students whose needs, interests and abilities focus on basic mathematical skills. Topics are covered with using a thematic approach and applications are a priority.
