French Immersion

French Language Arts 10 – 5 credits
Prerequisite: Grade 9 French Language Arts

Designed for ‘continuing’ and ‘late’ immersion students, the principal goal of the course is the ongoing development of oral and written language skills in French. The frameworks of literature and non-literary use of language are used to develop vocabulary, grammar and language structure skills. Integration of Information and Communication Technology contributes to students’ abilities to effectively represent their learning. FLA 30 students write the French Language Arts provincial diploma exam.

French Language Arts 20 – 5 credits
Prerequisite: Successful completion of French Language Arts 10.

In continuation from FLA10 the principal goal of the course is the ongoing development of oral and written language skills in French. The frameworks of literature and non-literary use of language are used to develop vocabulary, grammar and language structure skills. Integration of Information and Communication Technology contributes to students’ abilities to effectively represent their learning.

French Language Arts 30 – 5 credits
Prerequisite: Successful completion of French Language Arts 20

In French Language Arts 30, the principal goal continues to be the development of both oral and written language skills in French. Students’ communication skills and vocabulary will be enhanced through the study of a variety of French films and texts, including novels and plays. Please note that 50% of the final course mark is determined by the diploma examination mandated by Alberta Learning. French Language Arts 30 is one of the courses required to obtain the Bilingual Certificate.

Social Studies 10 (French) – 5 credits
Prerequisite: Grade 9 Social Studies

This course follows the provincial Social Studies 10 curriculum and is taught in French. Language comprehension in both oral and written French is enhanced through the study of relevant Canadian issues. Information and Communication Technology is also incorporated into the course.

Social Studies 20 (French) – 5 credits
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Social Studies 10 (French)

This course follows the provincial Social Studies 20 curriculum and is taught in French. As in Social Studies 10, French language development is enhanced through the grade level curriculum, and Information and Communication Technology is incorporated into the course.

Social Studies 30 (French) – 5 credits
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Social Studies 20 (French)

This course follows the provincial Social Studies curriculum and is taught in French. As in Social Studies 20, French language development is enhanced through the grade level curriculum. Information and Communication Technology continues to be incorporated into the course.

Pure Math 10 (French) - 5 credits
Prerequisite: Math 9 – 65%

This course follows the provincial Pure Math curriculum and is taught in French. French language skills are further developed through the study of mathematics concepts.
