Work experience
Work
Experience courses enhance students' awareness about the world of work
and facilitate their smooth transition to the world of work and/or post-secondary
study. Work experience provides opportunities to integrate classroom study
in all subjects with on-the-job experiences which enable the exploration
or validation of career interests.
The
first work experience course taken by a student is HCS3000: Workplace Health and Safety Systems.
It is a prerequisite for other Work Experience courses. A student completing
Work Experience 35 for 10 credits will have met the “10 credits
in any 30-level courses” graduation requirement for the Alberta
High School Diploma.
Students
enrolled in Work Experience courses may be paid by the employer at the
employer's discretion.
Outreach
programs provide the opportunity for students to complete work experience
during school hours. It allows students the flexibility to continue
working while completing academic subjects.
