program delivery

A personal learning plan for each student will be developed through interviews with the teacher. Students will learn by self-paced progress and their final projects will be a presentation to their peers. The culminating end-of-term project will be in groups of 4 – 6 students incorporating their learning from the term. Each student will be in charge of at least one design component.

At the introductory level, students can explore various aspects of engineering by completing 5 or more credits of study. At the intermediate and advanced levels, students can continue to explore, specialize and/or seek pre-placement in post-secondary study by completing 10 or more credits in an area of interest.

Pre-Engineering Introduction (5 Credits)

At the introductory level, students will develop a self-paced plan of study from a menu of up to 19 single credit courses. Students will be required to complete the following compulsory courses:

  • ELT1010: Electro-assembly 1
  • DES1020: The Design Process
  • Project Course: Type based on their other CTS courses

Successful students:

  • are self-motivated
  • like science, mathematics and team environments
  • enjoy solving problems and designing solutions
  • are interested in learning about a career in engineering technology or engineering

It is expected that each student will:

  • behave in a safe manner and promote safety in all aspects of the course
  • be on time for class
  • have their parent call or email the teacher if absent
  • maintain a portfolio, preferably digital format
  • be responsible for the equipment they are using
  • clean up and organize their work station at the end of every class
